It is in theatres like this one that a major "step" was taken in the evolution of mankind's view on the world and on itself. It is by seeing and listening to "drama" that the public was confronted with the fundamental problems of life and death, of law, of resistance against injustice, of doubt and fear, of courage, of loyalty and love. It was here that people were forced to think about these questions and their possible answers. It was here also that they realised that everybody sitting around them, faced the very same questions and problems. This solidarity and equality are the essential pillars that democracy was built on. Without Ancient Greek theatre there would be no democracy, however imperfect and vulnerable democracy might be.
